CHANGWON, South Korea: The annual Jinhae Gunhangje (Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival) opened on Friday (Apr 1), as hundreds of tourists from all over the world descended on the naval port city to experience the blooming of the cherry blossoms.
The festival draws more than 2 million tourists every year and is expected to be held till Apr 10.
First-time visitor from Singapore, Ms Vivien Loon, took a 1am bus from Seoul to make it for the first day of the 10-day festival. She arrived at the festival at 6am.
“I’m very happy I made my way down early to see the cherry blossoms, so that I could miss most of the crowds,” said Ms Loon. “But I really wanted coffee and most of the shops only opened at 11.”

People take advantage of the photo spots at the nearby Gyeonghwa Station. Decommissioned in February last year, the station used to have train services running through it. An unused train has been left there for display purposes. (Photo: Alvin Chong)
