Preying on desperate migrants, smugglers are reportedly using social media to advertise alternative routes to Europe. They are exploiting the anxiety that is building up from the delays in the relocation promises.

The smugglers are using Twitter and Facebook to lure migrants, promising them a route from Albania to Italy.

“Go to the Albanian border. Go to the sea. Benvenuto Italia,” reads one post with a map and precise coordinates to where the smugglers are reportedly waiting to take them to Italy.

More than 50,000 migrants and refugees remain stranded in deplorable camps and in open fields throughout Greece. A growing number remains stranded at Greece’s Idomeni border crossing with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).
